Tuesday Seminar: Psychoanalysis and the Psychological Sciences Instructors: Evan Good, Ph.D. and Jeremy Ridenour, Psy.D., ABPP
The goal of this seminar is to address the convergence and divergence between psychoanalytic theory and contemporary social-cognitive and personality science. The seminar will begin with an examination of the current and historical relationship between psychoanalysis and psychological science, including discussion about the utility, implications, and limitations of integrating these two perspectives. The remainder of the seminar will be organized topically around key models and concepts represented in both perspectives, with a focus on how integrating contemporary psychological science with psychoanalysis may help us to expand or evolve psychoanalytic knowledge.

Discuss the relationship between psychoanalysis and psychological science and how this relates to the advancement of psychoanalytic knowledge.
Compare psychoanalytic and basic social/personality models of the psychological constructs, and examine how the convergence and divergence of these models relates to fundamental assumptions about the nature of the mind
Reflect on the how basic social/personality science can inform and increment our thinking in relation to clinical practice.
