IOP Seminar - Character Development and Pathology - Instructor Evan Good, Ph.D.
The goal of this course is to understand the nature of character (or personality) from a psychoanalytic perspective. This includes understanding character development and the distinction between more adaptive and maladaptive expressions of character. The course will begin with the question, “what is character?”, examining various models from the analytic tradition that attempt to define and describe the essential aspects of character. For the remaining five weeks, the course will focus on the developmental trajectories of several interconnected facets of character functioning with consideration for how these inform psychanalytic diagnosis and case formulation.
