This presentation will address the challenge of preventing and responding to sexual assault, sexual coercion, and sexual harassment in residential communities.

Outline:

  1. Brief overview of community-based response and prevention programs addressing sexual violence.
  2. The relational dynamics of Intimate Partner Sexual Violence and Coercive Control.
  3. Cultural perspectives on sexual violence: rape as gender-based oppression and control.
  4. The sequelae of sexual violence for survivors.
  5. Offender Typologies: motivations, psychodynamics, shame and guilt and the offense cycle.
  6. Prevention frameworks.
  7. How the criminal justice system response to rape disclosures.
  8. The Title IX response model.

Learning Objectives

Participants will assess the cultural determinants of sexual violence disclosures and community response.

Participants will analyze their understanding of the psychological determinants of sexual violence perpetration and survivorship.

Participants will describe the processes and procedures used on college campuses for sexual violence disclosures and response, the Title IX model.

Lisa Piemont, LICSW, NCPsyA  - is a social worker and psychoanalyst who has worked in the field of domestic and sexual violence in agency settings and private practice for 30 years. Lisa completed psychoanalytic training at the Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis in 2003, then served as Fellow and Faculty member as well as Dean of Students, overseeing the development of a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling. Concurrent with her service to the training institute, Lisa held clinical positions at Jersey Battered Women’s Service in Morristown, New Jersey, the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel, New Jersey, and as Lead Clinician at Morris Cares, the Rape Crisis Center for Morris County, New Jersey. Currently, Lisa serves as Clinical Director at Elizabeth Freeman Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
