This 5-session seminar will orient participants to the knowledge and practices that facilitate the development of a successful career outside of Riggs. In the first session, we will explore issues involved in working in other healthcare systems as a psychodynamic psychotherapist with training in systems dynamics. In this session we will explore how one conducts an effective job search, how one self-protectively negotiates a contract, and how one uses Riggs’ skills in those settings. Subsequent sessions will focus more on the practiced to develop a successful private practice. Foci will include developing a business plan, managing relationships, record keeping, getting and using an EMR, how to get paid for your work, and how to protect yourself and minimize medicolegal risk.
Learning Objectives
- Describe other healthcare setting in which psychoanalytic skills and a systems approach may be practiced
- Effectively build a private practice that is financially successful while minimizing medicolegal risk
- Interface with other aspects of the healthcare team / medical system in ways that support effective practice outside of Riggs
