18th College Counseling Virtual Conference
Hosted by the Erikson Institute for Education, Research, and Advocacy of the Austen Riggs Center
Conference Co-Directors: Spencer Biel, PsyD; Donna Elmendorf, PhD; John Miner, MD
What and Why: Increased need for mental health care is one legacy of the pandemic that colleges must grapple with. Responding to increased need and higher acuity calls for creative and expanded modes and models of mental health care: from telehealth and online text-based therapy to online intensive outpatient programs, college mental health is in new and expanding territory. Building healthy communities to support the college experience is an essential part of the work of college mental health.
Our working conference will address two aspects of college mental health. In the morning we will have a panel discussion followed by breakout groups to address therapist fatigue and burnout in this new landscape of high need and stretched resources . In the afternoon we will have a panel and breakout groups to examine multimethod and emerging approaches to increased demand and higher acuity.
Target Audience
The conference is for clinicians providing, administering, or supporting the work of college mental health. Trainees are welcome to attend the conference as we think about the past, present, and future of college mental health.
